I love to use visible thinking routines for myself and for my students. Here are my favorites:
1.What makes you say that?
This requires looking at the "why" which is crucial in science and shows the need for evidence
2. See, Think, Wonder
This is a great way to begin a lesson and creates interest and curiosity
3. Think, Puzzle, Explore
I like this one as it raises questions and leads to exploring to find the answers
4. Compass Points
I find this really helpful in identifying my different feelings about a topic such as what worries me, what excites me, what do I need to know and what steps can I take
5. I Used to Think....Now I Think
It always is rewarding when you realize how far you've come and this simple routine is a great way of showing progress in learning
